Backpackers, where to go in Jakarta?

Where is the first thing to go in Jakarta?

If Jakarta is one of your stopovers and anybody recommend you Jalan Jaksa as your first stay, just go ahead. Backpackers might feel slightly or somewhat like home here as guest houses available anywhere along the street located downtown. There are cafes which enable you to hangout and interact each other as well as some Internet stations for your Internet access pleasure and everything around serves as cheap or reasonable price.

Exploring Jakarta for the first time by any backpackers can be troublesome, but thanks to the Internet, any references you need you can search there for your guidance .

You might have read a recommendation to take taxi or Damri bus from Soekarno-Hatta airport to any distinations you like around Jakarta or to go straight backpacking to its sattelite cities, which many prefer--and I recommend too--Bogor. It's nearer than you go straight to Borobodur Temple in Central Java or even Bali. A rainy town, cool temperature with a botanical garden in the center of town, find souvenirs you like here.

So where to go first as soon as you stay on Jalan Jaksa? Backpackers just can't wait to explore Jakarta, but wait, you gotta be ready with polluted streets and terrible traffic jams and unsuspected political rallies and floods at certain times.

First, you can walk southward out of Jalan Jaksa to Wahid Hasyim street and get a short cut to Sarinah, the first supermarket ever built in Jakarta. It takes around 15 - 20 minutes. If you don't like sweating you can take ojek (a motorcycle taxi) which only costs you 5000 IDR ($US 50 cent) to get there. Your backpacking activities can be continued by taking Bus Way: the Trans Jakarta which has its own lane and serves any major destinations in Jakarta without you paying back for the transit .

Opposite direction as you get out of Jalan Jaksa, will lead you to Gondangdia train station, at where it can take you to Bogor. But unfortunately, there's no more express train now; every commuter train must stop at every station to carry more and more passengers. So, watch out your backpack!
From this station you can also go to the old section of the city by taking the opposite direction, and the ticket both to Bogor or Jakarta base station is less than $ US 1.

Welcome to Jakarta. Happy backpacking!
